چکیده

The authors report on a rare case of multicentric giant cell tumor of the tendon sheath in the right index finger of a 76-year-old woman. In the present case, three lesions simultaneously arose at different sites in the same finger. Magnetic resonance imaging and intraoperative findings revealed no contiguity among the three lesions. A multicentric origin of the tumor is unusual. SICOT Online Report E059 Accepted May 24th, 2004 2 Introduction Localized giant cell tumor of the tendon sheath usually forms as a solitary nodule in the subcutis of the finger, hand and toe [3,4]. A multicentric origin of the tumor is extremely rare [2]. The authors describe a case of localized giant cell tumor of the tendon sheath, in which three separate tumors simultaneously developed at different sites in the same finger. Case Report A 76-year-old woman presented with an approximately 5-month history of two, gradually increasing masses in the volar aspect of her right index finger. The patient had no pain in the affected finger. The patient reported no previous trauma to the finger. On physical examination, mild swelling was noted over the volar aspect of the right index finger. A subcutaneous mass, measuring 1x1cm in size, was palpated in the volar aspect of the metacarpophalangeal (MP) joint, and another mass, measuring 2x1.5cm, was palpated in the volar aspect of the proximal interphalangeal (PIP) joint. Both masses were well-defined, soft, smooth-surfaced and non-tender. The overlying skin was normal. Another mass, measuring 0.5x0.5cm was palpated in the volar aspect of the distal interphalangeal (DIP) joint, which the patient had not noticed prior to presentation. The distal mass had similar nature to that of the other two proximal masses. All masses were located in the subcutis. The range of motion of the DIP, PIP and MP joints were mildly restricted in flexion due to the masses. Magnetic resonance (MR) imaging revealed three masses attaching to the flexor tendon sheath. All masses showed low signal intensity on both T1-weighted and T2-weighted images (Fig 1). There was no contiguity among the three lesions on MR imaging. Laboratory data showed no abnormalities. A Case Report of Giant Cell Tumor of the Tendon Sheath after Treatment of Germ Cell Tumor of Testicles in a 7-year-old boy

Germ cell tumors account for 2 to 3% of all cancers in children. These tumors appear in the testicles as painless masses. The primary treatment of these tumors is the removal of testicles and chemotherapy. Giant cell tumor of the tendon sheath (GCTTS) is slow-growing tumor and the primary treatment of this tumor is surgery and both surgery and radiotherapy in invasive type. This report presents...

Extra-Articular Diffuse Giant Cell Tumor of the Tendon Sheath: A Report of 2 Cases

Two rare cases of extra-articular diffuse variant giant cell tumor of the tendon sheath are presented, at the elbow of a 68-year-old female and the foot of a 56-year-old male. Both patients presented with a palpable masses and marginal excision was performed; histological sections confirmed the diagnosis of extra-articular giant cell tumor. No adjuvant therapy was administered. At the last fo...

Giant Cell Tumor of Tendon Sheath

Background:  Giant cell tumor of tendon sheath (GCTTS) is often thought of as a volar finger mass. We hypothesized that GCTTS are equally common on the dorsal and volar aspects of the hand. In addition, we hypothesized that there are no factors associated with the location (volar versus dorsal) and largest measured dimension of a GCTTS.  Methods:  A total of 126 patients with a pathological dia...

Giant cell tumor of tendon sheath: a multicentric presentation

Giant cell tumor of the tendon sheath (GCTTS) is a relatively common soft tissue neoplasm arising from the tendon sheaths of upper and lower extremities. However, the incidence of GCTTS at multiple sites is not yet reported in literature which is extremely rare. Here we are reporting a case of a 21 year female presenting with slow growing, firm swellings on bilateral elbow and tendoachilis regi...

Fine Needle Aspiration Cytology of Chondroid Tenosynovial Giant Cell Tumor of the Hand

Giant cell tumor (GCT) of tendon sheath is a localized form of tenosynovial GCT, which preferentially affects the joints of hands and feet. Chondroid metaplasia is a rare phenomenon in tenosynovial GCT either in localized or diffuse types. The current case investigates the cytological and histopathological features of chondroid GCT of tendon sheath in a 22-year-old female presenting with wrist ...
